Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
Legette should have been long gone. The Bengals pounced, and earned a D-.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bengals shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. Put together, it is a D-.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Sweat has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Legette.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
They jumped the gun on T'Vondre Sweat, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick49 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
Ja'Tavion Sanders slipping to pick No. 49 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick66 Rnd3 Xavier Legette
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Xavier Legette in the 66th overall pick, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick78 Rnd3 Christian Haynes
A quiet steal in the 78th pick: Christian Haynes for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
Pick115 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
No drama and no debate, Tyler Davis went about where he belonged in No. 115. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138 Rnd5 Chau Smith-Wade
Chau Smith-Wade is a better player than the 138th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick149 Rnd5 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg in the Round 5 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
Pick194 Rnd6 Daijun Edwards
Daijun Edwards slid further than he should have, and pick No. 194 is lovely value for the running back. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick214 Rnd6 Keith Randolph Jr.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Keith Randolph Jr.. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick238 Rnd7 Dominique Hampton
Good price on Dominique Hampton in Round 7, Pick 18, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It adds depth where they could use a little.
