Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Dolphins: B.

The Dolphins did not so much draft Eric Gentry as overpay for him, 125 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McNeil-Warren. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
In slot 11 they get a workhorse for the backfield at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick30 Rnd1 Olaivavega Ioane
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get protection for the quarterback, and a steal at that.
Pick43 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon in pick 43 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jake Slaughter in pick No. 75, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick87 Rnd3 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Taking Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick91 Rnd3 Jacob Rodriguez
Steal is underselling it; Jacob Rodriguez at the 91st overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick94 Rnd3 Ted Hurst
They did well to land Ted Hurst in slot 94, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick130 Rnd4 Ja'Kobi Lane
You do not let a wide receiver like Ja'Kobi Lane reach pick No. 130 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick151 Rnd5 Drew Allar
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Drew Allar. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick168 Rnd5 Taylen Green
They talked themselves into Taylen Green at pick 168, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick227 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
A real head-scratcher, Eric Gentry in Round 7, Pick 11 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick238 Rnd7 Riley Mahlman
This one needs a full-page explanation: Riley Mahlman in No. 238, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
