Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedC+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Steelers won the night they stopped Nubin from sliding. Grade: B-.

You build a draft on nights like this. Tyler Nubin had no business being available in Round 3, Pick 20, and the Steelers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

The Randolph Jr. pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. It is not that Beebe is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first.

Safety is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In slot 20 they get a blindside protector at fair value. More want than need.
Pick51 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
A want over a need in the 51st pick: Cooper Beebe adds an offensive lineman while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick84 Rnd3 Tyler Nubin
The board fumbled Tyler Nubin all the way to pick No. 84, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick98 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
A straight-up fair deal on Brenden Rice at pick 98, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick119 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in Round 4, Pick 19 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick178 Rnd6 Tanor Bortolini
They paid a round early for Tanor Bortolini in the Round 6 slot, more than the board wanted. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick195 Rnd6 Keith Randolph Jr.
A real head-scratcher, Keith Randolph Jr. in No. 195 is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
