Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Cardinals won the night they stopped Barrett from sliding. Grade: B-. The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Michael Barrett, Round 7, Pick 21, roughly 23 picks past where he belonged.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and interior defensive lineman still on the board.
Spann-Ford has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In the 4th pick they get a No. 1 receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick27
Rnd1
Kool-Aid McKinstry
In pick No. 27 they get an island corner at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick35
Rnd2
Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan in slot 35 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick66
Rnd3
Ja'Lynn Polk
They paid sticker price for Ja'Lynn Polk in No. 66, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick71
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
No drama and no debate, Cooper Beebe went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 7. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick90
Rnd3
Trey Benson
Trey Benson in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick105
Rnd4
Maason Smith
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Maason Smith at DT-EDGE with edge rusher and interior defensive lineman open.
Pick137
Rnd5
Kalen King
By-the-book stuff, Kalen King at pick 137 squarely in line with his ranking. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick161
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
No edge and no loss on Luke McCaffrey in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick188
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at No. 188 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick222
Rnd7
Josh Proctor
A clean, defensible pick in the 222nd overall pick with a little surplus value in Josh Proctor. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick224
Rnd7
Brevyn Spann-Ford
They jumped the gun on Brevyn Spann-Ford, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick241
Rnd7
Michael Barrett
They robbed the room for Michael Barrett here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
