Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall C+
ValueB NeedB TradesD- FutureB
The phones sank the Commanders this weekend: C+.

The Commanders did not so much draft Xavier Nwankpa as overpay for him, 58 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. The Reese pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick62 Rnd2 Germie Bernard
Fair-plus on Germie Bernard, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick71 Rnd3 A.J. Harris
Quietly one of the better values of the day, A.J. Harris at the 71st pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick130 Rnd4 Xavier Nwankpa
This one needs a full-page explanation: Xavier Nwankpa in the 130th overall pick, miles early. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick146 Rnd5 Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price slid further than he should have, and No. 146 is lovely value for the running back. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick188 Rnd6 Lee Hunter
Value said wait; Lee Hunter in pick 188 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick197 Rnd6 Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton in pick No. 197 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick223 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
A reach on Trey Zuhn III in Round 7, Pick 7; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
