FutureC
A passer of the future in Mendoza, and a B, for the Raiders. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Fernando Mendoza is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
The cost of the Jones reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
By-the-book stuff, Fernando Mendoza at the 1st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick22
Rnd1
Kadyn Proctor
In slot 22 they get a building block for the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick67
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson slid further than he should have, and pick No. 67 is lovely value for the linebacker. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick102
Rnd4
Logan Jones
They talked themselves into Logan Jones at No. 102, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick117
Rnd4
Hezekiah Masses
They paid a round early for Hezekiah Masses in pick 117, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick134
Rnd4
Ted Hurst
The board had cheaper options than Ted Hurst at the 134th pick, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick174
Rnd5
Eric McAlister
Eric McAlister at the Round 5 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick180
Rnd6
Rayshaun Benny
They paid sticker price for Rayshaun Benny in Round 6, Pick 1, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick183
Rnd6
Thaddeus Dixon
Thaddeus Dixon at pick 183 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick219
Rnd7
Kalil Alexander
A straight-up fair deal on Kalil Alexander at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
