FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Cowboys to a D. Somebody took the Cowboys to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
Hemby has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Sturdivant.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In the 5th pick they get a blindside protector. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick28
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In the 28th overall pick they get a difference-maker at receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick37
Rnd2
Jonah Savaiinaea
Jonah Savaiinaea at Round 2, Pick 5 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick58
Rnd2
Danny Stutsman
They paid sticker price for Danny Stutsman in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick90
Rnd3
Cameron Ward
A clean, defensible pick in pick 90 with a little surplus value in Cameron Ward. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick91
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
A tidy little value on Nicholas Singleton in slot 91, a step better than break-even. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick92
Rnd3
Nazir Stackhouse
They took Nazir Stackhouse at par in pick No. 92, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick101
Rnd4
Gabe Jacas
They jumped the gun on Gabe Jacas, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick122
Rnd4
J. Michael Sturdivant
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing J. Michael Sturdivant in the 122nd pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick154
Rnd5
Gentry Williams
Gentry Williams at pick No. 154 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick186
Rnd6
Roman Hemby
Roman Hemby at the Round 6 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
