A sensible, unshowy class lands the Steelers a B-. You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Steelers spent Round 2, Pick 19 on Zach Frazier while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots sat unaddressed.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Getting Sainristil where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Frazier has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In No. 20 they get a building block for the line. Need was not the driver here.
Pick51
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots to take Zach Frazier, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick84
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Mike Sainristil at Round 3, Pick 20 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick98
Rnd3
Gabriel Murphy
Gabriel Murphy at the 98th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick122
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
A surprising call. With quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent the 122nd overall pick on Matt Goncalves, an offensive lineman they were not short of.
Pick157
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in No. 157 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
