Boke DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Bears, and a B- to prove it. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Bears spent the Round 6 slot on Chip Trayanum, a name the board had a full 96 spots lower. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The Emmanwori pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, cornerback and other spots still on the board. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Nwankpa.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka at the 20th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick33
Rnd2
Landon Jackson
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Landon Jackson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick52
Rnd2
Xavier Nwankpa
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Xavier Nwankpa in the Round 2 slot. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick84
Rnd3
Nic Anderson
Nic Anderson at No. 84 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick110
Rnd4
Nick Emmanwori
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman, cornerback and other spots still to address, they spent slot 110 on Nick Emmanwori, a safety they were not short of.
Pick116
Rnd4
Gabe Jacas
Gabe Jacas in pick 116 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick148
Rnd5
Bryce Foster
They reached into another round for Bryce Foster, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
Pick180
Rnd6
Colbie Young
A conviction pick on Colbie Young at No. 180 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick182
Rnd6
Chip Trayanum
Chip Trayanum in the Round 6 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
