Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
D
ValueC+

TradesF
FutureB-
The Cowboys robbed the room for Ward. Final grade: D. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Cowboys did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. It grades a D, and the process earned it.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Anderson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The Ward value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Emery Jones Jr.
They paid sticker price for Emery Jones Jr. in pick No. 28, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick58
Rnd2
Nic Anderson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Nic Anderson. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick62
Rnd2
TreVeyon Henderson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing TreVeyon Henderson in pick 62. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick90
Rnd3
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
Jamon Dumas-Johnson at the 90th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick91
Rnd3
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker in Round 3, Pick 27 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick92
Rnd3
Raheim Sanders
A reach for Raheim Sanders in the 92nd overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick122
Rnd4
Cam Ward
Cam Ward at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick154
Rnd5
Reuben Fatheree II
Reuben Fatheree II in slot 154 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick186
Rnd6
Alfred Collins
A tidy bit of business in No. 186, where Alfred Collins graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
