Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureB+
Smith should have been long gone. The Cowboys pounced, and earned a D.

The Cowboys treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 186th pick on Tyler Batty a full 35 spots early. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. Smith falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In No. 6 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick26 Rnd1 Jonah Savaiinaea
In slot 26 they get protection for the quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Landon Jackson
Landon Jackson in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick58 Rnd2 Drew Allar
A clean, defensible pick in the 58th pick with a little surplus value in Drew Allar. The roster fit checks out.
Pick62 Rnd2 Danny Stutsman
No drama and no debate, Danny Stutsman went about where he belonged in No. 62. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick70 Rnd3 Nic Anderson
Nic Anderson at slot 70 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick90 Rnd3 Nicholas Singleton
They took Nicholas Singleton at par in Round 3, Pick 26, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick110 Rnd4 Raheim Sanders
No edge and no loss on Raheim Sanders in the 110th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick116 Rnd4 Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in pick 116 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick122 Rnd4 Davison Igbinosun
A premium they did not need to pay, Davison Igbinosun a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick154 Rnd5 Donovan Smith
Donovan Smith in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick186 Rnd6 Tyler Batty
Tyler Batty at the 186th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
