Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D+
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureA+
The Cowboys answered their biggest question with Sanders. Grade: D+.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Cowboys did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.

Shedeur Sanders is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The Harris pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

Henderson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Shedeur Sanders
In pick 18 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick26 Rnd1 Emery Jones
In pick No. 26 they get a cornerstone up front, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick50 Rnd2 Earnest Greene III
A reach for Earnest Greene III in Round 2, Pick 18; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick58 Rnd2 Mykel Williams
Nice patience on Mykel Williams, who had no business lasting to No. 58. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick64 Rnd2 Nic Anderson
The board had cheaper options than Nic Anderson at the 64th pick, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick82 Rnd3 Nicholas Singleton
They paid sticker price for Nicholas Singleton in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick90 Rnd3 Jamon Dumas-Johnson
They liked Jamon Dumas-Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in the 90th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick92 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson in slot 92 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick122 Rnd4 Denver Harris
Denver Harris in pick No. 122 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick154 Rnd5 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in pick 154 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick186 Rnd6 Will Howard
Value with a capital V on Will Howard in the Round 6 slot, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
