Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
D
ValueB-

TradesF
FutureB+
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Cowboys to a D. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Chip Trayanum at pick 186, a reach of 88 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The Styles pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at cornerback and tight end.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. That is an edge rusher worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In pick No. 10 they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick26
Rnd1
Jonah Savaiinaea
In the 26th pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Jack Sawyer
Jack Sawyer at the 39th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick58
Rnd2
Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman in slot 58 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick60
Rnd2
Earnest Greene III
They took Earnest Greene III at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick71
Rnd3
Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne in Round 3, Pick 7 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick74
Rnd3
Shilo Sanders
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Shilo Sanders. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick90
Rnd3
Riley Leonard
A straight-up fair deal on Riley Leonard at No. 90, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick91
Rnd3
Sonny Styles
They bypassed pressing needs at cornerback and tight end to take Sonny Styles, a safety that was not the priority.
Pick122
Rnd4
Wyatt Milum
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Wyatt Milum in Round 4, Pick 26. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick154
Rnd5
Alfred Collins
A reach on Alfred Collins in the 154th overall pick; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick186
Rnd6
Chip Trayanum
A wild overpay on Chip Trayanum in the 186th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
