Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
D+
ValueB
NeedB
TradesF
FutureA+
The Cowboys bled value on every deal, hence the D+. The Cowboys looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jalen Catalon at No. 186 regardless, 45 picks early.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Bond value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
The veteran additions, Ja'Whaun Bentley chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Ollie Gordon II
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get a featured back. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
A quiet steal in pick No. 34: JT Tuimoloau for less than the market said. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick58
Rnd2
Isaiah Bond
They read the board right and Isaiah Bond was the payoff at the Round 2 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick62
Rnd2
Ajani Cornelius
Good price on Ajani Cornelius in the 62nd overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick66
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
Value with a capital V on Tate Ratledge in slot 66, a genuine coup. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick90
Rnd3
Riley Leonard
A straight-up fair deal on Riley Leonard at the 90th pick, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick91
Rnd3
Nazir Stackhouse
Nazir Stackhouse at the 91st pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick97
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
They took Smael Mondon Jr. at par in pick No. 97, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick98
Rnd4
Raheim Sanders
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Raheim Sanders. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick122
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Malachi Moore at the Round 4 slot. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick154
Rnd5
Reuben Fatheree II
Reuben Fatheree II in Round 5, Pick 26 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick186
Rnd6
Jalen Catalon
Jalen Catalon at the 186th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
