Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall

FutureB+
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Cowboys to a D. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Cowboys did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Put together, it is a D.
Reaching for Sheppard left real value on the table behind him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In pick 7 they get a blindside protector. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick26
Rnd1
Emery Jones
In the 26th pick they get protection for the quarterback, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Landon Jackson
By-the-book stuff, Landon Jackson at the 39th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick58
Rnd2
Danny Stutsman
No drama and no debate, Danny Stutsman went about where he belonged in No. 58. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick64
Rnd2
Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne in Round 2, Pick 32 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick71
Rnd3
Shilo Sanders
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Shilo Sanders. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick90
Rnd3
Riley Leonard
Riley Leonard in pick No. 90 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick91
Rnd3
Raheim Sanders
A reach for Raheim Sanders in slot 91; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick122
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
They paid a round early for Davison Igbinosun in Round 4, Pick 26, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick154
Rnd5
Will Sheppard
They reached a country mile for Will Sheppard at the 154th pick, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick186
Rnd6
Colbie Young
Colbie Young at the Round 6 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
