Draft Grade — Cowboys

FutureA+
The Cowboys got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D. Some picks age like wine; Chip Trayanum at No. 186 will need to, sitting 69 spots clear of his grade. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The Sanders pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at cornerback and tight end. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Mukuba.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Nic Scourton
In slot 13 they get a problem off the edge. Need was not the driver here.
Pick26
Rnd1
Emery Jones
In pick No. 26 they get protection for the quarterback, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Booker at Round 2, Pick 7 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick58
Rnd2
Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman in the 58th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick71
Rnd3
Drew Allar
Drew Allar at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick77
Rnd3
Elic Ayomanor
No edge and no loss on Elic Ayomanor in the 77th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick90
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
A clean, defensible pick in the 90th pick with a little surplus value in Nicholas Singleton. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick93
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
Steal is underselling it; Andrew Mukuba at pick No. 93 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick109
Rnd4
Shilo Sanders
They bypassed pressing needs at cornerback and tight end to take Shilo Sanders, a safety that was not the priority.
Pick122
Rnd4
J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant at pick 122 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick154
Rnd5
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins at No. 154 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick186
Rnd6
Chip Trayanum
A big swing on Chip Trayanum at Round 6, Pick 26, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
