Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureC-
The phones sank the Chiefs this weekend: D-.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Chiefs started one anyway for Kendall Milton, 36 picks ahead of schedule.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On value alone, Haynes makes the weekend a net positive.

Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick Analysis
Pick39 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
Good price on Jordan Morgan in pick 39, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick52 Rnd2 Ruke Orhorhoro
They paid a round early for Ruke Orhorhoro in No. 52, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick64 Rnd2 Austin Booker
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Austin Booker. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick69 Rnd3 Christian Haynes
They read the board right and Christian Haynes was the payoff at slot 69. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick83 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
A slide stopped in pick No. 83, with Jeremiah Trotter Jr. worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick95 Rnd3 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott in the 95th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick99 Rnd3 DJ James
DJ James at No. 99 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick105 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
They went early on Johnny Wilson in Round 4, Pick 5, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick110 Rnd4 Brandon Coleman
They did well to land Brandon Coleman in the 110th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick132 Rnd4 Hunter Nourzad
Hunter Nourzad slipping to slot 132 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick142 Rnd5 Kitan Oladapo
Kitan Oladapo at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick159 Rnd5 Cornelius Johnson
No drama and no debate, Cornelius Johnson went about where he belonged in pick No. 159. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick173 Rnd5 Ryan Flournoy
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ryan Flournoy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick209 Rnd6 Kendall Milton
Kendall Milton at the 209th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
