Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Panthers let Banks fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Caleb Banks at slot 51 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. They are betting Coogan proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with linebacker chief among the fixes. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick19 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the 19th overall pick they get the heartbeat of the defense, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick51 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
Steal is underselling it; Caleb Banks at No. 51 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick91 Rnd3 Jacob Rodriguez
By-the-book stuff, Jacob Rodriguez at pick No. 91 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick119 Rnd4 Keylan Rutledge
No drama and no debate, Keylan Rutledge went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick156 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
They paid a round early for Xavier Nwankpa in slot 156, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick157 Rnd5 Pat Coogan
Pat Coogan at Round 5, Pick 19 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick166 Rnd5 Taylen Green
They paid sticker price for Taylen Green in the 166th pick, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick198 Rnd6 Desmond Reid
Desmond Reid in pick 198 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick235 Rnd7 Haynes King
Haynes King at Round 7, Pick 19 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
