Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C+
ValueC- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Steelers get a C+.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Khristian Boyd; the Steelers did not wait, grabbing him 84 spots ahead at pick No. 84. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.

The Thomas Jr. pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Steelers indulged a want in Nourzad while a need in interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots stayed open.

If Chris Braswell and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Chris Braswell
In pick 20 they get a disruptor off the edge, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick51 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Taking Brian Thomas Jr. in the 51st pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick84 Rnd3 Khristian Boyd
A wild overpay on Khristian Boyd in the 84th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick98 Rnd3 Trevor Keegan
They talked themselves into Trevor Keegan at Round 3, Pick 35, and the board did not agree. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick119 Rnd4 Hunter Nourzad
A curious use of slot 119. Interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Hunter Nourzad did not.
Pick178 Rnd6 Walter Rouse
A tidy bit of business in the Round 6 slot, where Walter Rouse graded well above the range. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick195 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
A straight-up fair deal on Joe Milton III at the 195th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
