mhendrickson3 DRAFTING FOR THEPackers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Packers. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Darius Robinson a full 30 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Packers indulged a want in Gray while a need in quarterback, wide receiver and other spots stayed open.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Troy Fautanu
Troy Fautanu at No. 25 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick41
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T.J. Tampa. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick57
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
No edge and no loss on Edgerrin Cooper in Round 2, Pick 25; it is a wash and a sensible one. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick88
Rnd3
Caelen Carson
Fair-plus on Caelen Carson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick91
Rnd3
Darius Robinson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Darius Robinson this early at pick 91. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick126
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, wide receiver and other spots to take Cedric Gray, a linebacker that was not the priority.
Pick168
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
They paid sticker price for Kitan Oladapo in slot 168, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick203
Rnd6
Michael Wiley
Michael Wiley at pick 203 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick216
Rnd6
Jawhar Jordan
A straight-up fair deal on Jawhar Jordan at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick243
Rnd7
Trevor Keegan
A reach on Trevor Keegan in the 243rd pick; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
Pick251
Rnd7
Jalen Sundell
A reach for Jalen Sundell in No. 251; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
