Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall D+
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureC-
The phones sank the Chiefs this weekend: D+.

The Chiefs clearly saw something nobody else did in Dillon Johnson, taking him 39 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Put together, it is a D+.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Landing Nourzad that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick38 Rnd2 Darius Robinson
No drama and no debate, Darius Robinson went about where he belonged in pick No. 38. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick47 Rnd2 Mike Sainristil
They took Mike Sainristil at par in slot 47, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick64 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Patrick Paul. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick70 Rnd3 Michael Hall Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Michael Hall Jr. at the 70th pick, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick95 Rnd3 Ben Sinnott
By-the-book stuff, Ben Sinnott at the 95th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick106 Rnd4 Brenden Rice
They liked Brenden Rice enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 4 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick107 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
The board had cheaper options than Cedric Gray at slot 107, and it noticed. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick132 Rnd4 Kitan Oladapo
Kitan Oladapo at pick 132 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick146 Rnd5 Hunter Nourzad
The board fumbled Hunter Nourzad all the way to pick No. 146, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick159 Rnd5 Cornelius Johnson
No edge and no loss on Cornelius Johnson in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick173 Rnd5 Ryan Flournoy
They reached a country mile for Ryan Flournoy at the 173rd overall pick, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick182 Rnd6 Dillon Johnson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Dillon Johnson well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
