Draft Grade — Browns
Overall

FutureA+
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Browns to a B-. Nobody had Jason Marshall Jr. this high, and it is not close. The Browns reached 30 spots to get him at slot 172. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Spending an early pick on linebacker with edge rusher open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
On value alone, Burke makes the weekend a net positive.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Value with a capital V on Kenneth Grant in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
A clean, defensible pick in the 44th overall pick with a little surplus value in Jihaad Campbell. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick52
Rnd2
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at pick 52 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick61
Rnd2
Elic Ayomanor
Elic Ayomanor at Round 2, Pick 29 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick67
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at slot 67 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick72
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
No edge and no loss on Mason Taylor in the 72nd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick82
Rnd3
Barrett Carter
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Barrett Carter in Round 3, Pick 18 leaves edge rusher for later.
Pick92
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba is a better player than slot 92 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick94
Rnd3
Jalen Milroe
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalen Milroe. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick104
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tez Johnson in the Round 4 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick119
Rnd4
Jake Majors
They went early on Jake Majors in pick No. 119, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick128
Rnd4
Denzel Burke
Denzel Burke at the 128th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick136
Rnd4
Mitchell Evans
A reach on Mitchell Evans in No. 136; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick137
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
By-the-book stuff, Malachi Moore at pick 137 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick148
Rnd5
Andres Borregales
They paid sticker price for Andres Borregales in pick No. 148, and that is fine. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick172
Rnd5
Jason Marshall Jr.
Jason Marshall Jr. in Round 5, Pick 34 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick175
Rnd5
Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray at slot 175 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
Pick179
Rnd6
Ollie Gordon II
A tidy little value on Ollie Gordon II in the 179th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick192
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 192nd pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick200
Rnd6
Nazir Stackhouse
They took Nazir Stackhouse at par in pick 200, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick216
Rnd6
Donovan Edwards
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Donovan Edwards in the Round 6 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Pick223
Rnd7
Ja'Quinden Jackson
A straight-up fair deal on Ja'Quinden Jackson at No. 223, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick233
Rnd7
Jabbar Muhammad
No drama and no debate, Jabbar Muhammad went about where he belonged in slot 233. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick234
Rnd7
Shemar James
Shemar James in the 234th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick240
Rnd7
Moliki Matavao
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Moliki Matavao. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick255
Rnd7
Shilo Sanders
Shilo Sanders at Round 7, Pick 39 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
