Quarterback settled, Mendoza in the fold, and a B- for the Raiders. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Raiders spent their marquee pick on Fernando Mendoza, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Curry.
Reaching for Slaughter left real value on the table behind him.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
Fernando Mendoza in Round 1, Pick 2 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick33
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Olaivavega Ioane. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick36
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in slot 36 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick49
Rnd2
Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe in the 49th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick67
Rnd3
Lee Hunter
No drama and no debate, Lee Hunter went about where he belonged in No. 67. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick117
Rnd4
Caden Curry
Value with a capital V on Caden Curry in pick No. 117, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick124
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance at the Round 4 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick174
Rnd5
Taylen Green
A clean, defensible pick in the 174th pick with a little surplus value in Taylen Green. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick180
Rnd6
Bud Clark
They paid sticker price for Bud Clark in the Round 6 slot, and that is fine. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick219
Rnd7
Dominic Zvada
Dominic Zvada at slot 219 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
