The Bengals cashed the board's mistake on Majors: A-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bengals were there to profit. Jake Majors, the No. 96 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 191st overall pick. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Tank Dell pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In pick No. 25 they get a mismatch in the passing game. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jalon Walker in slot 49, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick81
Rnd3
Xavier Watts
They will replay Xavier Watts at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick89
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild at the 89th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick117
Rnd4
Omarr Norman-Lott
The board fumbled Omarr Norman-Lott all the way to No. 117, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick152
Rnd5
Jordan James
Jordan James in Round 5, Pick 15 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick191
Rnd6
Jake Majors
Jake Majors in pick 191 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
