FutureA+
The Browns checked most of the boxes and earned a B. The Browns looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jaeden Roberts at the Round 3 slot regardless, 27 picks early.
Getting Sadiq where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
In pick No. 18 they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick24
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
In No. 24 they get a long-term starter on the line, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq at pick 39 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick57
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
A tidy little value on Jake Slaughter in slot 57, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick70
Rnd3
Carter Smith
Carter Smith at the 70th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick89
Rnd3
Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts in Round 3, Pick 25 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick107
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
They took Zachariah Branch at par in No. 107, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick139
Rnd5
Kage Casey
Kage Casey at the 139th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
Pick144
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Value with a capital V on Drew Allar in slot 144, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick147
Rnd5
Domani Jackson
They did well to land Domani Jackson in pick 147, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick194
Rnd6
De'Zhaun Stribling
They went early on De'Zhaun Stribling in pick No. 194, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick204
Rnd6
Nolan Rucci
Nolan Rucci at the 204th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick221
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
Jordan Hall at Round 7, Pick 5 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick239
Rnd7
Jaylon Braxton
No edge and no loss on Jaylon Braxton in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick248
Rnd7
Eric Gentry
A premium they did not need to pay, Eric Gentry a notch or two before his time. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
