Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A passer of the future in Mendoza, and a B-, for the Raiders.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Raiders did exactly that with Kalil Alexander in the Round 6 slot. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

The whole projection now runs through Fernando Mendoza; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The Slaughter value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In pick 1 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 Elijah Sarratt
They took Elijah Sarratt at par in the 36th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at the 67th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick102 Rnd4 Julian Neal
Taking Julian Neal in slot 102 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick117 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
No edge and no loss on Jalon Kilgore in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick134 Rnd4 Jacob Rodriguez
They reached a country mile for Jacob Rodriguez at Round 4, Pick 34, and the board is aghast. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick174 Rnd5 Lander Barton
Lander Barton at the 174th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick182 Rnd6 Kalil Alexander
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kalil Alexander well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick185 Rnd6 Trinidad Chambliss
No drama and no debate, Trinidad Chambliss went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 4. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick219 Rnd7 Earnest Greene III
Earnest Greene III at the 219th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
