FutureA-
The Raiders left with their quarterback, and a D to match. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Raiders did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
The whole projection now runs through Fernando Mendoza; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They are betting Pregnon proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Cooper Jr..
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In the 6th overall pick they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick24
Rnd1
Gennings Dunker
In the 24th pick they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
The board had cheaper options than Emmanuel Pregnon at Round 2, Pick 4, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick39
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
By-the-book stuff, Sonny Styles at slot 39 squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick77
Rnd3
Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter in pick No. 77 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick102
Rnd4
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick117
Rnd4
D'Angelo Ponds
They read the board right and D'Angelo Ponds was the payoff at No. 117. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick174
Rnd5
Taylen Green
Taylen Green at pick 174 is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick195
Rnd6
De'Zhaun Stribling
They went early on De'Zhaun Stribling in pick 195, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick219
Rnd7
Isaac Smith
No drama and no debate, Isaac Smith went about where he belonged in No. 219. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
