Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B

The Steelers found their guy under center in Simpson: B.

Start where it matters. The Steelers took Ty Simpson to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. The bottom line is a respectable B.

For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. They banked enough surplus on Wheatley to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Ty Simpson
Ty Simpson in Round 1, Pick 21 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick53 Rnd2 Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick76 Rnd3 Malik Muhammad
By-the-book stuff, Malik Muhammad at pick 76 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick85 Rnd3 Markel Bell
Markel Bell at pick No. 85 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick99 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley at the 99th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick121 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
Nothing to complain about; Bryce Lance went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick135 Rnd4 Mike Washington Jr.
No edge and no loss on Mike Washington Jr. in slot 135; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick159 Rnd5 Connor Tollison
A reasonable price with a little left over, Connor Tollison in No. 159. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
