Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A passer of the future in McCarthy, and a B, for the Cardinals.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Cardinals spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

The Jackson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. It is not that Solomon is a bad player; it is that the Cardinals had louder needs to answer first. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.

The Ford value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In pick No. 4 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick27 Rnd1 J.J. McCarthy
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get the arm they will build around. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick35 Rnd2 Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
They paid sticker price for Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the 35th overall pick, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick66 Rnd3 Zach Frazier
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Zach Frazier at the 66th pick is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick71 Rnd3 Kiran Amegadjie
Kiran Amegadjie at No. 71 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick90 Rnd3 DeWayne Carter
A wild overpay on DeWayne Carter in slot 90, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick104 Rnd4 Javon Solomon
They bypassed pressing needs at running back and tight end to take Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE that was not the priority.
Pick138 Rnd5 McKinnley Jackson
They reached a country mile for McKinnley Jackson at the Round 5 slot, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
Pick162 Rnd5 Braiden McGregor
Braiden McGregor in pick No. 162 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick186 Rnd6 Ryan Flournoy
Ryan Flournoy at the 186th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick226 Rnd7 Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford in the 226th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
