FutureA
Quarterback settled, McCarthy in the fold, and a B+ for the Broncos. The war room fell hard for Easton Gibbs, and it showed at Round 7, Pick 12: 100 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
The whole projection now runs through J.J. McCarthy; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The McGlothern pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Donovan Wilson gives the group a proven body among the projects.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
J.J. McCarthy
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick55
Rnd2
Roman Wilson
Value with a capital V on Roman Wilson in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick121
Rnd4
Elijah Jones
Nothing to complain about; Elijah Jones went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick136
Rnd4
Justin Eboigbe
They went early on Justin Eboigbe in No. 136, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick145
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in pick 145 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick149
Rnd5
Beau Brade
Nice patience on Beau Brade, who had no business lasting to pick No. 149. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick177
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
A wild overpay on Jared Wiley in Round 6, Pick 2, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick203
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
Somehow Dwight McGlothern was still sitting there in pick 203, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick207
Rnd6
Daijun Edwards
A running back of that caliber at the 207th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick232
Rnd7
Easton Gibbs
They left a pile of value on the table to take Easton Gibbs this early at the 232nd overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
