Draft Grade — Bears
Overall A-
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
Henderson should have been long gone. The Bears pounced, and earned a A-.

The rest of the league will want that one back. LaDarius Henderson tumbling to the Bears in No. 207 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Van Pran pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

In the end it comes back to Chop Robinson, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In No. 17 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Josh Newton
They paid sticker price for Josh Newton in pick No. 34, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick36 Rnd2 Johnny Wilson
Nothing to complain about; Johnny Wilson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick37 Rnd2 Troy Franklin
Troy Franklin at pick 37 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick38 Rnd2 Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock at Round 2, Pick 6 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick47 Rnd2 Sedrick Van Pran
They talked themselves into Sedrick Van Pran at the 47th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick61 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
They did well to land Cooper Beebe in slot 61, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick68 Rnd3 Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick69 Rnd3 Byron Murphy II
No drama and no debate, Byron Murphy II went about where he belonged in slot 69. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick81 Rnd3 Jack Sawyer
Good price on Jack Sawyer in pick No. 81, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick105 Rnd4 Marshawn Kneeland
No edge and no loss on Marshawn Kneeland in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick128 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray in Round 4, Pick 28 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick142 Rnd5 Nehemiah Pritchett
Nehemiah Pritchett in the 142nd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick207 Rnd6 LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson at the 207th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Pick226 Rnd7 Ricky Pearsall
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 226 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
