Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall C
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureA
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Commanders to a C.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Commanders did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.

The Jackson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They banked enough surplus on Hadden to cover a lot of smaller sins.

If Joe Alt and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Joe Alt
In the 8th pick they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick36 Rnd2 Tyler Nubin
A clean, defensible pick in pick 36 with a little surplus value in Tyler Nubin. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick40 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
Ja'Tavion Sanders at No. 40 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick74 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in slot 74 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick100 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at pick No. 100 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102 Rnd4 Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson slid further than he should have, and the Round 4 slot is lovely value for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick141 Rnd5 Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden is a better player than Round 5, Pick 5 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick181 Rnd6 Rasheen Ali
A reach on Rasheen Ali in the 181st overall pick; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick206 Rnd6 DeWayne Carter
They took DeWayne Carter at par in slot 206, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick223 Rnd7 Miles Frazier
They paid a round early for Miles Frazier in pick 223, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick244 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
Good price on Eric Gentry in the 244th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
