Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
Maye is the Commanders' new face under center. Grade: B+.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop.

On value alone, Egbuka makes the weekend a net positive. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

The Ford pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In the 8th pick they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Pick17 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick35 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
The board fumbled Xavier Legette all the way to the 35th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick36 Rnd2 Rome Odunze
Circle this one: Rome Odunze at No. 36 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick37 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
A reach for Chris Braswell in pick 37; a little patience would have been rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick40 Rnd2 Graham Barton
Graham Barton is a better player than pick No. 40 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick68 Rnd3 Emeka Egbuka
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 68 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick100 Rnd3 Blake Fisher
They jumped the gun on Blake Fisher, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick104 Rnd4 Dominick Puni
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dominick Puni at pick No. 104 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick141 Rnd5 Jaylan Ford
They talked themselves into Jaylan Ford at No. 141, and the board did not agree. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick182 Rnd6 LaDarius Henderson
A tidy bit of business in Round 6, Pick 7, where LaDarius Henderson graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick225 Rnd7 Marques Cox
A reasonable price with a little left over, Marques Cox in pick 225. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
