FutureB-
Larceny in pick 97 lands the Cowboys a B, Wheatley and all. Call it larceny. Zakee Wheatley sat on the board until pick No. 97, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. Jackson Jr. has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
Fair-plus on Arvell Reese, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick20
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In pick 20 they get a featured back at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick49
Rnd2
Darrell Jackson Jr.
They liked Darrell Jackson Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 2 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick97
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley at the 97th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick112
Rnd4
Monroe Freeling
They paid a round early for Monroe Freeling in the 112th overall pick, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick150
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart in Round 5, Pick 12 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick177
Rnd5
Kyle Louis
Kyle Louis in pick No. 177 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick181
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at No. 181 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick196
Rnd6
Le'Veon Moss
Le'Veon Moss in the 196th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick221
Rnd7
Isaiah Nwokobia
A tidy little value on Isaiah Nwokobia in pick 221, a step better than break-even. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick225
Rnd7
Thaddeus Dixon
Nothing to complain about; Thaddeus Dixon went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
