jj3325 DRAFTING FOR THEPackers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Packers. The war room fell hard for Will Shipley, and it showed at pick 92: 37 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
It is not that Williams is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
The Odunze pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Rome Odunze in the 25th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
They liked Jackson Powers-Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in the 41st overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick57
Rnd2
Javon Bullard
A premium they did not need to pay, Javon Bullard a notch or two before his time. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick88
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
A reasonable price with a little left over, Mike Sainristil in the Round 3 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick92
Rnd3
Will Shipley
They reached a country mile for Will Shipley at slot 92, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick125
Rnd4
James Williams
A curious use of pick No. 125. Edge rusher, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a safety in James Williams did not.
Pick135
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen at the 135th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick203
Rnd6
Omar Speights
Omar Speights at Round 6, Pick 28 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick217
Rnd6
Zion Logue
A real head-scratcher, Zion Logue in pick 217 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick219
Rnd6
Walter Rouse
A wild overpay on Walter Rouse in the 219th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick246
Rnd7
Tatum Bethune
Tatum Bethune in slot 246 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
