Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Browns a B.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Browns started one anyway for Diego Pavia, 86 picks ahead of schedule. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

Montgomery at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick39 Rnd2 Kayden McDonald
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kayden McDonald at the 39th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick70 Rnd3 Connor Lew
Fair-plus on Connor Lew, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick107 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in Round 4, Pick 7 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick113 Rnd4 Ja'Kobi Lane
They robbed the room for Ja'Kobi Lane here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick139 Rnd5 Kevin Coleman Jr.
A conviction pick on Kevin Coleman Jr. at pick 139 that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick144 Rnd5 J'Mari Taylor
A premium they did not need to pay, J'Mari Taylor a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick147 Rnd5 Bryce Boettcher
A wild overpay on Bryce Boettcher in Round 5, Pick 9, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick152 Rnd5 Kage Casey
Nothing to complain about; Kage Casey went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick154 Rnd5 Diego Pavia
This one needs a full-page explanation: Diego Pavia in pick 154, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick160 Rnd5 Beau Stephens
Beau Stephens is a better player than the Round 5 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick176 Rnd5 Kaleb Proctor
Good price on Kaleb Proctor in the 176th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick204 Rnd6 Desmond Reid
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Desmond Reid. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick216 Rnd6 Fa'alili Fa'amoe
Fa'alili Fa'amoe at pick No. 216 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick230 Rnd7 Tyren Montgomery
They will replay Tyren Montgomery at the 230th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick235 Rnd7 Kaleb Elarms-Orr
You do not let a linebacker like Kaleb Elarms-Orr reach pick 235 and blink. They did not. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick248 Rnd7 Jordan Hudson
They reached a country mile for Jordan Hudson at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
