Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB- TradesF FutureC+
The 49ers bled value on every deal, hence the D-.

The 49ers did not so much draft Gino Garcia as overpay for him, 53 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

That Shough pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Will Johnson
In the 12th pick they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value.
Pick38 Rnd2 Walter Nolen
Walter Nolen in the Round 2 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
Good price on Jihaad Campbell in Round 2, Pick 11, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75 Rnd3 Isaiah Bond
Isaiah Bond in pick 75 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick76 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
A straight-up fair deal on Ozzy Trapilo at No. 76, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick100 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
No drama and no debate, Jared Wilson went about where he belonged in pick No. 100. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick113 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in Round 4, Pick 11 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick138 Rnd4 Hollin Pierce
They took Hollin Pierce at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick147 Rnd5 Cody Simon
Cody Simon slipping to pick 147 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick160 Rnd5 Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough at No. 160 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick171 Rnd5 Connor Colby
They went early on Connor Colby in the 171st pick, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick227 Rnd7 Howard Cross III
A reasonable price with a little left over, Howard Cross III in the 227th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jermari Harris
Circle this one: Jermari Harris at pick No. 249 is a fall that decides a draft. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick252 Rnd7 Gino Garcia
They talked themselves into Gino Garcia at slot 252, and the board did not agree. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
