Big9er DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the 49ers and Singleton: B-. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The 49ers watched Nicholas Singleton slide 133 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
If Evans pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43
Rnd2
Armand Membou
Armand Membou in the 43rd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
Value said wait; Jordan Burch in pick 75 says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick99
Rnd3
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts in the Round 3 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick111
Rnd4
Luke Kandra
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Luke Kandra. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick137
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
The board fumbled Smael Mondon Jr. all the way to the 137th pick, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick185
Rnd6
Davison Igbinosun
A big swing on Davison Igbinosun at No. 185, well ahead of any board in the building. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick226
Rnd7
Mitchell Evans
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Mitchell Evans well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick230
Rnd7
Nicholas Singleton
They barely believed it either: Nicholas Singleton still on the board at the 230th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick249
Rnd7
Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at Round 7, Pick 33 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick255
Rnd7
Thor Griffith
They reached into another round for Thor Griffith, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
