Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureC
The 49ers won the night they stopped Washington from sliding. Grade: D-.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the 49ers started one anyway for Jowon Briggs, 58 picks ahead of schedule. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.

The Washington pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.

A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Troy Fautanu
Troy Fautanu at pick No. 21 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick51 Rnd2 Malachi Corley
They went early on Malachi Corley in the 51st pick, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick63 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
They read the board right and T.J. Tampa was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 31. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick84 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
The board had cheaper options than Brenden Rice at No. 84, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick124 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson in slot 124 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick131 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves at pick No. 131 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick133 Rnd4 Isaiah Adams
They paid sticker price for Isaiah Adams in Round 4, Pick 33, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick176 Rnd6 Kalen King
Kalen King in pick 176 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick178 Rnd6 Myles Cole
Myles Cole at the 178th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick211 Rnd6 Jowon Briggs
They reached into another round for Jowon Briggs, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick215 Rnd6 Sam Hartman
A real head-scratcher, Sam Hartman in the 215th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick251 Rnd7 Tahj Washington
Tahj Washington in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
