FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the 49ers: B-. Some picks age like wine; Tanner McLachlan at No. 153 will need to, sitting 55 spots clear of his grade. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The Gore Jr. steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Darius Robinson
In the 31st overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick63
Rnd2
Ruke Orhorhoro
Ruke Orhorhoro in No. 63 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick96
Rnd3
Javon Foster
Javon Foster at slot 96 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick127
Rnd4
Elijah Jones
A tidy bit of business in the 127th pick, where Elijah Jones graded well above the range. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick131
Rnd4
Jamari Thrash
Jamari Thrash in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick133
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tykee Smith in pick 133, miles early. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick153
Rnd5
Tanner McLachlan
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tanner McLachlan well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick176
Rnd6
Hunter Nourzad
Hunter Nourzad slid further than he should have, and pick 176 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick211
Rnd6
Jaylen Harrell
Nothing to complain about; Jaylen Harrell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick215
Rnd6
Nathaniel Watson
By-the-book stuff, Nathaniel Watson at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick251
Rnd7
Frank Gore Jr.
They will replay Frank Gore Jr. at pick No. 251 for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
