Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueA NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Grand theft in the 255th overall pick: the 49ers steal Arroyo and grade out a B.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The 49ers watched Elijah Arroyo slide 177 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. No fireworks, but a solid B.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptor off the edge, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 Walter Nolen
The board fumbled Walter Nolen all the way to the 43rd pick, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick75 Rnd3 Armand Membou
They will replay Armand Membou at the 75th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick99 Rnd3 Aireontae Ersery
Aireontae Ersery in slot 99 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick112 Rnd4 Ashton Jeanty
A running back of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 11 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138 Rnd4 Jihaad Campbell
You do not let a linebacker like Jihaad Campbell reach pick No. 138 and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick139 Rnd4 Jahdae Barron
Jahdae Barron in No. 139 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick189 Rnd6 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins at pick 189 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick228 Rnd7 Darius Alexander
They barely believed it either: Darius Alexander still on the board at No. 228. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick232 Rnd7 Savion Williams
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Savion Williams in the 232nd overall pick, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick255 Rnd7 Elijah Arroyo
Taking Elijah Arroyo in Round 7, Pick 37 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
