junior.53 DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall

The 49ers let Kiner fall and pounced. Final grade: B-. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Corey Kiner got past him. The 49ers do not have to explain a thing at the 252nd overall pick.
Phillips has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In the 11th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau in No. 43 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jordan Phillips
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jordan Phillips. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick100
Rnd3
Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman slipping to the 100th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick113
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
Value with a capital V on Cam Skattebo in the Round 4 slot, a genuine coup. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick138
Rnd4
Emery Jones Jr.
A quiet steal in pick No. 138: Emery Jones Jr. for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick147
Rnd5
Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson in Round 5, Pick 9 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick160
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
Steal is underselling it; O'Donnell Fortune at slot 160 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick227
Rnd7
Craig Woodson
They barely believed it either: Craig Woodson still on the board at the 227th pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick249
Rnd7
Jaylin Smith
By-the-book stuff, Jaylin Smith at slot 249 squarely in line with his ranking. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick252
Rnd7
Corey Kiner
Somehow Corey Kiner was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 36, and they pounced on premier running back value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
