4D9RZ DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the 49ers: B-. Every other box got a look, but quarterback did not. The 49ers will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with.
On value alone, Fiske makes the weekend a net positive. They are betting Taylor III proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Tyler Guyton
A conviction pick on Tyler Guyton at Round 1, Pick 31 that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick63
Rnd2
Mekhi Wingo
They paid sticker price for Mekhi Wingo in pick No. 63, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick94
Rnd3
Braden Fiske
Braden Fiske slid further than he should have, and pick 94 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick98
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III at the 98th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick132
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
A premium they did not need to pay, Ben Sinnott a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick176
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
By-the-book stuff, Jaylan Ford at No. 176 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick209
Rnd6
Braiden McGregor
They took Braiden McGregor at par in the 209th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick214
Rnd6
Jawhar Jordan
Jawhar Jordan at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick215
Rnd6
Christian Jones
Good price on Christian Jones in the 215th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick249
Rnd7
Joshua Cephus
They paid up for Joshua Cephus at No. 249 when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
