Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the 49ers: B-.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Rasheem Biles, 24 picks early at Round 5, Pick 33. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

It is not that Wheatley is a bad player; it is that the 49ers had louder needs to answer first. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Landing Neal that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick52 Rnd2 Elijah Sarratt
Elijah Sarratt in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick59 Rnd2 A.J. Haulcy
No edge and no loss on A.J. Haulcy in No. 59; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick78 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
A surprising call. With running back, interior defensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent pick 78 on Zakee Wheatley, a safety they were not short of.
Pick85 Rnd3 Julian Neal
Julian Neal at the 85th pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick92 Rnd3 Monroe Freeling
They talked themselves into Monroe Freeling at the 92nd overall pick, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick139 Rnd4 Logan Jones
A straight-up fair deal on Logan Jones at slot 139, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick160 Rnd5 DJ Campbell
They went early on DJ Campbell in the 160th pick, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick172 Rnd5 Rasheem Biles
A real head-scratcher, Rasheem Biles in No. 172 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick237 Rnd7 Cayden Lee
Nothing to complain about; Cayden Lee went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
