Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

The 49ers bet big and early on Trey Zuhn III, 42 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. They will answer for taking cornerback early while wide receiver, running back and other spots went begging.

Getting Roberts where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 David Bailey
In slot 30 they get juice off the edge at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick61 Rnd2 Colton Hood
Colton Hood at Round 2, Pick 29 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick94 Rnd3 Jaeden Roberts
The board had Jaeden Roberts higher than the 94th overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick129 Rnd4 Parker Brailsford
Parker Brailsford at the 129th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick137 Rnd4 Jyaire Hill
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Jyaire Hill in pick 137 leaves wide receiver, running back and other spots for later.
Pick138 Rnd4 Isaac Smith
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Isaac Smith. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick173 Rnd5 Isaiah Jatta
Isaiah Jatta at the 173rd pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick179 Rnd5 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at pick 179 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick205 Rnd6 Jaren Kanak
They paid sticker price for Jaren Kanak in pick No. 205, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
