Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the 49ers.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Javontae Jean-Baptiste in the 176th pick, a good 41 spots before the room expected him. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

Getting Fisher where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Ruke Orhorhoro
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63 Rnd2 Marshawn Kneeland
The board had cheaper options than Marshawn Kneeland at pick 63, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick94 Rnd3 Javon Foster
They left a pile of value on the table to take Javon Foster this early at No. 94. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick131 Rnd4 Elijah Jones
A slide stopped in slot 131, with Elijah Jones worth more than the price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick151 Rnd5 Blake Fisher
They robbed the room for Blake Fisher here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick176 Rnd6 Javontae Jean-Baptiste
A real head-scratcher, Javontae Jean-Baptiste in the Round 6 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick200 Rnd6 Gabe Hall
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Gabe Hall well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick211 Rnd6 Ryan Flournoy
Ryan Flournoy at the 211th overall pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick215 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
They paid up for Frank Gore Jr. at the Round 6 slot when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick247 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
Joshua Cephus at the 247th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick251 Rnd7 LaDarius Henderson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on LaDarius Henderson. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
