The 49ers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D+.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The 49ers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.

They will need Colson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. Getting Rice where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

They paid up for Troy Fautanu at the 33rd pick when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.

This one needs a full-page explanation: Junior Colson in the Round 3 slot, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
