The 49ers did not so much draft Patrick Payton as overpay for him, 65 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

Getting Muhammad where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

So much rides on Olaivavega Ioane that the real verdict is a season or two away.
