FutureB
The 49ers won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+. The 49ers put a flag in the ground for Justin Eboigbe, 38 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. That Fatheree II pick is the receipt they will wave around later. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The 49ers clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick52
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
A premium they did not need to pay, Tyler Guyton a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick63
Rnd2
Ja'Lynn Polk
By-the-book stuff, Ja'Lynn Polk at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick94
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zak Zinter. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick98
Rnd3
AJ Barner
A big swing on AJ Barner at Round 3, Pick 35, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick131
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
They did well to land Khyree Jackson in No. 131, just ahead of his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick157
Rnd5
Ainias Smith
No edge and no loss on Ainias Smith in pick 157; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick177
Rnd6
Cody Schrader
Cody Schrader at slot 177 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick215
Rnd6
Jordan Whittington
Jordan Whittington in the 215th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick234
Rnd7
Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe in No. 234 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick252
Rnd7
Reuben Fatheree II
Reuben Fatheree II at Round 7, Pick 32 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
