FutureB-
Good, not great, for the 49ers: B-. The 49ers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 215th pick on Trey Knox a full 55 spots early. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Worthy at Round 2, Pick 1, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick63
Rnd2
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at the 63rd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick94
Rnd3
Blake Fisher
Value said wait; Blake Fisher in pick 94 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick98
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
A reach for Roman Wilson in No. 98; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick101
Rnd4
Kiran Amegadjie
By-the-book stuff, Kiran Amegadjie at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick131
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in slot 131 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick177
Rnd6
Jacob Cowing
Jacob Cowing in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick209
Rnd6
Jahdae Barron
Jahdae Barron at No. 209 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick213
Rnd6
Kamal Hadden
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kamal Hadden in pick 213, miles early. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick215
Rnd6
Trey Knox
A real head-scratcher, Trey Knox in Round 6, Pick 40 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick252
Rnd7
Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe at the 252nd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
